The Royal Malaysian Air Force was established in 1958 as the Federal Air Force of Malaya. But the history of the RMAF can be traced much earlier with the establishment of the Malayan Volunteers Air Force (Malayan Volunteers Air Force) as the local branch of the British Royal Air Force during the British colonial period.
